Causes

Causes I support and some I try to promote.

Ocean Awareness

A few years ago I watched Sylvia Earle’s TED talk. I was pretty disgusted by much of what I learned in that presentation and since I spend a good amount of my leisure time on the ocean, I was motivated to participate in the cause to try to save our oceans. I created a blog, Save The Ocean, to try to help promote awareness about the state of Earth’s oceans. Watch Sylvia Earl’s TED talk.

Clean, Renewable Energy

I can remember since junior high school, when I wanted to become an architect, being fascinated with solar energy. Ever since then I’ve had interest in clean, renewable energy. Regardless of any arguments about global warming and carbon footprints, it just makes sense to me to try to use clean energy sources. Living in Hawaii, we’re the perfect sandbox for tinkering with clean, renewable energy options. So, I started another blog, Clean Hawaii Energy.

Critical Thinking

Noticing increasing societal polarization, especially political, where people are bombarded with “facts” and opinions by pundits and experts, I’ve felt frustrated that so many people choose to blindly follow their pundit of choice like rats following the Pied Piper, without really thinking and questioning. Having been formally exposed to serious critical thinking standards in my MBA program, I’ve felt that if more people were exposed to critical thinking principles as a discipline, they might at least be able to identify when statements, opinions and actions aren’t completely rational. With that in mind I set out to make an explanatory video explaining some basic principles of critical thinking in the style of Xplane’s recent videos Did You Know and The Carbon Economy.
